Review and Tasting

Sampled on 07/09/2014

Appearance:

(sample bottled Oct/14) Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Pencil shavings, vanilla fudge and light cinnamon spice with faint coal dust and salt. Orchard fruit emerges with water.

Taste:

Heavy in texture – almost chewy. Cinnamon spiced, buttery and faintly smoky with cream-of-soda vanilla sweetening and smoothing aggressive dry oak tannins and black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Long dry finish. Vanilla, cinnamon and black pepper spice with lingering oak tannins.

Overall:

Sadly few grain whiskeys are bottled and this one is to be celebrated as one of rare Irish examples and even rarer wine cask matured. However, it is dry and woody with vanilla fudge helping to tame oak tannins.
