Made from beer (a blend of lagers and ales) with hops (rather than neutral spirit) brewed by Cervezas La Virgen which is distilled at nearby Santamania distillery, also in Madrid. Launched in 2015 with a limited edition of 740 bottles.

The screen printed bottle illustrates the partnership between the brewery and distillery with recognizable icons from both brands, like Vera – the copper still at the Santamania distillery, and the Tap Room at La Virgen brewery.

Appearance:

(sample bottle 89, bottled Feb/15) Crystal clear.

Aroma:

White chocolate and cracked black pepper with faint salty sea air and thyme.

Taste:

Grainy with hints of creamy white chocolate and faint salt with aniseed, chili pepper and black pepper.

Aftertaste:

Grainy with cracked black pepper, faint aniseed and salty seaweed.

Overall:

Distilled from beer with hops rather than the more usual neutral spirit, this vodka is characterful and robust with grainy character and white chocolate, aniseed and salty seaweed.
