Fläming is a German region south-east of Berlin noted for its dense beech woods which takes its name from Flemish settlers who came here in the 12th Century. This is where Fläminger Jagd is made with 38 herbs from the region.

‘Jagd’ literally translates as ‘hunt’. The fact that a fox features prominently on the label and this herbal liqueur is marketed with the catchy phrase “the one with the fox” leads me to presume that Fläminger Jagd, which dates back to the 19th Century, was originally enjoyed at fox hunts. It is a competitor of Jägermeister, which translates as ‘hunt-master’ only this time a male dear is pictured and so presumed the quarry.

Fläminger Jagd was re-launched with this new look tall slim bottle in April 2009.

Bitter-sweet and herbal.

Lacks the strong liquorice notes found in Jägermeister and is more subtle in flavour.
