Review and Tasting

Sampled on 08/03/2020

Appearance:

Clear, pale pink.

Aroma:

Piney juniper with hibiscus, lemon zest, and herbal undertones.

Taste:

Reassuringly juniper-led with classic gin notes of coriander, angelica, liquorice, orris and zesty citrus with delicate floral notes and mild enlivening peppery spice. This is a dry gin but with pleasing subtle sweet notes.

Aftertaste:

Fades with classic juniper-led spicy gin notes but with faint lingering red fruit and floral notes.

Overall:

Unlike many other "pink gins" Mataroa is a proper gin with classic gin flavours. The pink influence - hibiscus and pomegranate - is very subtle, as are "Mediterainin" hints of bay leaf and mastiha. Atractively packaged and only let down by being bottled at slightly below standard strength at 38% alc./vol..
