HLCF is one of several marks used at Hampden Estate and stands for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, referring to a rum with a high ester concentration, ranging from 400 to 600gr/HLPA. This stems from European rum traders seeking such high-ester rums to use in small quantities to pep up their otherwise bland rums.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 25/06/2022

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Pungent, funky banana bread, chargrilled pineapple, toasty oak and cinnamon-led spice.

Taste:

Huge!. Explodes on the palate. Spirituous spice subdues to reveal toasty oak, bready grilled pineapple and flambeed banana.

Aftertaste:

Slightly burnt chargrilled pineapple and blackened banana bread.

Overall:

A huge cask-strength rum that's brilliant tamed with a splash of cola or to add a blast of Jamaican funk to a cocktail.
