Glengyle Distillery was redeveloped from dereliction by J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd, owners of the neighbouring Springbank Distillery. They bought Glengyle in 2000 and set about refurbishing and re-equipping the distillery using customised stills from the closed Ben Wyvis distillery.

Production commenced in March 2004 and Glengyle now produces the Kilkerran single malt, the first bottling of which was released on 21st May 2009. Named 'Kilkerran Work in Progress I' this release of 12,000 bottles was the first of the "Work in Progress" series from five years old towards it full release age of 12 years old in 2016.
