Difford’s Guide is a big website but it is kept alive and updated by a small team – just seven of us. If you’re a regular reader you’ve probably noticed that I do most of the writing, make all the drinks and sample all the products. Well, I could use some help.
We're looking for a new member of the team to join us - initially as a paid Intern - to see if we all gel. Ideally, then this will turn into a full-time long-term role. (The company is 21 years old and Dan's been here 18+ years.)
You (we hope it's you) will work closely with me and Paloma, who looks after the business end of things and liaises with our clients - drink companies big and small the world over.
The successful candidate will help me produce content and publish on this site and in our books, run our social media accounts, assist on video and photo shoots, work on client projects and learn about the general running of what is a fun and very interesting business.
I started Odd Firm of Sin Ltd, the company that operates Difford's Guide 21 years ago. You can read more about me (Simon Difford) here and the team here. I run the business with Paloma, my partner in life and business; and Harry, our brilliant IT Director; and a very talented team:
Dan - photographer, graphic designer and arbiter of taste - at least when it comes to look and feel.
Matt and James - who work with Harry programming and doing clever stuff the rest of us don't understand.
Alicja - our talented videographer, director and editor.
Our partners - in addition we're lucky enough to have Denny, Eleni, Matteo, Tess, Timo, Ingmar, Daniela, Ara and Marcelo who run Difford's Guide in the following countries: Greece, Australia, Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil.
We operate in a dynamic and entrepreneurial industry, working with the world's largest and most well-known drinks brands, as well as small/craft operators and start-ups.
Our website, Difford's Guide is one of the world's most visited drinks sites and we'd like to continue to build and improve this with new functionality and content. Hence our wanting to grow our team.
This position will suit someone who is studying, or has experience in one or more of the following areas; publishing, journalism, marketing, media, communications, digital marketing, PR, and of course the drinks industry.
The role will be much more fun if you have an interest in the drinks industry and a desire to learn about running a publishing business. We can offer a fantastic long-term opportunity for the right person, to grow and develop with our business.
The position is based in our office near Rye, East Sussex and will involve some travel in the UK including visits to London for client meetings, video and photo shoots. We are presently installing a full bar in the office and we also use The Cabinet Room, the bar in my London apartment. As you can see from the pic below, our office sits in beautiful countryside in the midst of the English wine belt, 20 mins from Camber Sands and less than 1 hour 30 mins from central London.
Our office nestles in beautiful countryside on the Kent / East Sussex border
The drinks industry is full of wonderful personalities and characters... we hope you have this potential. If you feel you're the right fit we invite you to send us your CV and also, if you'd like to, a short video to introduce yourself (iPhone or equivalent quality is perfect).
