Wow, this is *really* good. The rye and amaro (I used Averna because it's what I had on hand) split the spotlight, with the banana just a few steps back. But the Yellow Chartreuse is just enough to give it an herbal kick at the finish and really makes it shine. I followed Mike's advice and used a dash of angos, 2 drops of Bittermens xocolatl mole and 4 drops of ango orange bitters. One of my recent favorites.
Delicious, spicy/herbal complexity (rye, amaro, genepy - everything in this contributes!!) on top of a robust rye base! Maybe a little sweet for some, but I think that most old-fashioned fans will love this.
Damn, this is a very fine drink. Plenty of layers of herbal complexity, with the banana just peeking through. But the rye isn’t overwhelmed. If you’re a fan of boozy, complex, spirit-forward drinks, you really should try it.
Wild Turkey 101, Tempus Fugit crème de banane. I didn’t have Jerry Thomas bitters, so subbed Ango plus one drop of Bittermens mole bitters.
