First launched as a draught in Mexico in 1926, Negra Modelo is Mexico’s top selling beer. Grupo Modelo describe it as being a “Munich-style beer” but it is widely considered to be a “Vienna lager-style beer”. Negra Modelo is presented in a distinctive bell-shaped squat bottle with gold livery.
Modelo Especial is Grupo Modelo, the Mexican brewer’s second most popular beer and the third most popular imported beer brand in the United States. It is the first beer produced by Grupo Modelo in 1925, the year in which the company was formed.
Brewed with some 40% rice and a relatively low proportion of hops, this very light bodied lager is sold in a distinctive clear screen printed bottle. The bizarre trend for drinking Corona with a lime wedge pushed into the neck of the bottle was started by American tourists and simply caught on.
