In its sixth year, National Calvados Week returns with even bigger celebrations across the UK between 15th - 21st October 2018.
Calvados hails from Normandy but in recent decades, the delectable brandy has been growing in popularity across the globe.
National Calvados Week coincides with the beginning of the apple harvest, beginning from mid-October into December in France. The apple-based spirit can be served on-the-rocks, straight up, or enjoyed as a cocktail base – and NCW offers the ideal opportunity for a tasting, with Calvados inspired events ongoing throughout the week.
This year, the week-long celebration brings together over 100 bars and restaurants offering tastings, and Calvados menus, including the classic serve of Calvados and tonic. Sponsored by Père Magloire Calvados, created by a renowned inn keeper of 19th century France whose name rose to fame when his reputation of high-quality Calvados spread through the country.
A superb selection of bars will feature special Calvados drinks menus, including Milk, Reading; Wash House, Manchester; Petit Café, Liverpool; Jakes’ Bar, Leeds; Circle Lounge, Halifax; 33 Cank Street, Leicester; Wilderness, Birmingham; Boiler Maker, Nottingham; Jazz Café, Lincoln.
Edinburgh sees pop-up menus at Kin and Harry’s Bar which also will host a Meet the Maker event. Specially crafted menus will offer Calvados drinks at Red Teapot bars; Bullard and Worth; Nightcap; La Petite Mort; Panda & Sons; Hoot the Redeemer; Blue Blazer; Nauticus and Miss Woos, plus a tasting at Blue Blazer.
Showcasing in London, Calvados and Cigar matching will be hosted at Soho Whisky Club with Hunters and Frankau, and an in-store tasting at Gerry’s and Hedonism. The specially crafted Calvados drinks menus will be available at Cocktail Trading Company; The Vault at Milroys; Frenchies; Merchant House; South Place Hotel; Trading House; Café Pacifico.

Retailers are encouraged to get involved in the celebrations and can sign up by participating in the National Calvados Week Best Retail Display. Simply, upload your display to the campaign’s social media pages (Twitter or Facebook) and the best winning display will receive a bottle of the exclusive Père Magloire Memoire. There will also be another bottle up for grabs for the most creative cocktail on the menu during the week. All you need to do is upload a photo to the campaign’s social media pages to win.
