Originating in 1879, Absolut Vodka entered the global market in 1979 with its US launch. Its first flavoured variant, Absolut Peppar, debuted in 1986, and a series of flavoured expressions has followed over the following decades.
So iconic have been many of Absolut's flavours, they have inspired bartenders to create cocktails that have gone on to become contemporary classics, starting in 1988, at the very start of the modern cocktail renaissance with Toby Cecchini's Cosmopolitan following the launch of Absolut Citron. In turn, such cocktail have inspired variations, such as the Metropolitan, created in 1993 by Chuck Coggins at Marion's in New York, using the recently launched Absolut Kurant (now Absolut Wild Berri).
