The history of Melissanidi Distillery started in 1924, in Almopia, Pella Prefecture, Greece, when distiller, Thanassis Nikolaidis, who had recently settled in Greece from Asia Minor, established the distillery.
Ten years later, his son Fotis, along with the fellow distiller Pavlos Melissanidis, collaborate and continue to expand the activity of the distillery with hard work and Thanassis's secret recipes.
In the years that followed, the distillery passed from the hands of Pavlos' son, distiller George Melissanidis, to the third generation: today, George's son, Dimitris and his wife Nopi, are at the helm of the business, and the only thing that has changed is the incorporation of some modern technologies. As for the rest, the production process is traditional, and the recipes always secret and always by the grand-parents, Thanassis and Pavlos, the same ones used since 1924.

But the products of the distillery would not be the same without local spring water, drawn straight from the Kaimaktsalan springs. This along with, the carefully selected raw materials and the small cop-per stills add their own magic touch to the finished products.
The distillery, which has been operating smoothly for nearly a century, is well established in the region, and in recent years, due to their reputation, its products have found distribution all over Greece.
