Pittyvaich (pronounced ‘Pitty-Vakh’) was built in 1975 by Arthur Bell & Sons to partner nearby Dufftown. One of the more recently built distilleries, it also proved to be one of the shortest lived and was closed in 1993 at the tender age of just eighteen after being made redundant by a series of mergers.

Pittyvaich was briefly used for a trial production of gin in November 1994 while the feasibility was assessed for it’s of use as an emergency production facility in the event of a disaster at the Diageo’s main gin distillery in Laindon. The accountants did not favour Pittyvaich and its buildings were eventually demolished in 2002.
