The Artesian is named after the 360 foot artesian well beneath the foundations of the hotel, which supplied the original hotel during its Victorian heyday. Thanks to some of London's best bartenders, and interior design by David Collins, in more recent years this was, until late 2015, one of the capital's leading bars. Indeed the Artesian was widely regarded one of the world's best bars. Sadly, things have changed.

The lavish interior combines Chinoiserie and Victoriana with timber chandeliers, imitation rattlesnake-leather flooring and walls decorated with silver-leaf, bevelled mirrors while raised enamel butterfly motifs cover all surfaces. There is no doubting you are in a 5-star hotel but you may find the drinks no longer live up to this bar's reputation.
