Jardín Tragos y Pasteles brings together two pleasures that rarely receive equal billing: cocktails and pastry. Set in a leafy garden tucked away in Bogotá's Chapinero district, the bar was created around the idea that a carefully made dessert deserves an equally considered drink.
Pastry chef Karla Palacio and drinks specialist Wilman Corredor developed Jardín after experimenting with dessert-and-cocktail pairings, looking for combinations in which neither overwhelms the other.
The setting is integral to its appeal. Hidden behind a house on Calle 67, Jardín opens onto a plant-filled courtyard that feels pleasantly removed from Bogotá's busy streets. The mood is closer to a relaxed café or garden restaurant than a conventional late-night cocktail bar, making it as suited to an afternoon visit as an evening of drinks.
Desserts sit at the heart of the menu, with creations such as tiramisu, arequipe flan and croissant cake joined by savoury dishes, while the cocktail programme is conceived to complement the pastry kitchen rather than simply accompany it.
It is an unusual proposition, but an appealingly straightforward one: come for cocktails, come for cake, or-preferably-order both.
