Review

Over on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, in a building that's mysteriously occupied almost exclusively by Japanese businesses, Butler is an absolutely delightful Japanese cocktail bar, and quite the reverse of what you'd expect in TST.

Decked out in a low-key but elegant mix of light woods and leather, Butler occupies two floors of Mody House, connected only by the building's single lift. The more popular fifth floor is a classics-led cocktail bar, while the sixth floor houses a whisky bar with an impressively eclectic and comprehensive selection of the amber nectar. Neither bar allows for standing (reservations are a must at weekends), and both have a HK$30 (£2.50) cover and HK$200 (£16.50) minimum spend

Japanese and homegrown bartenders keep things classy, dishing out snacks, cool water, excellent cocktails and good whisky advice. If you're staying on Hong Kong Island, a second Butler opened in May 2015 at the Asia-Pacific Centre on Wyndham Street in Central.
