Review

It's hard to fault this stunning space, which transports you instantly into a retro but strangely timeless world. Foxglove's theme is travel, and the main bar, with its low art-deco ceiling panels and golden prop spinning lazily against blue velvet curtains feels like a hybrid of luxury ocean liner and vintage aeroplane. The private dining room, by contrast, feels like a late Victorian train carriage from the glory days of the Orient Express.

The menu, themed around the adventures of the fictional Frank Minza, is a romp through different periods of cocktail history. Classics and classically styled drinks benefit from an Asian twist, with ingredients like kaffir lime leaves, yuzu and red pepper: we loved the House of Quincy, with whisky, dark rum, green chartreuse, kaffir lime, lemon and grapefruit bitters.

The building runs between Duddell Street and Ice House Street. Enter from Ice House Street to enjoy the full speakeasy effect: Foxglove is disguised as the type of umbrella shop the Kingsmen would love. Come late in the week for live jazz, including big bands.
