The Windsor Castle was built around 1835 on the brow of Campden Hill and an unlikely legend has it that in those times the eponymous castle was visible from its upper windows. Once a stopping off point for farmers taking their livestock to market at Hyde Park, today this is one of London's poshest pubs.

This olde-worldly pub is divided by wooden panelling that is said to have been salvaged from a ship. This used to segregate different classes of drinker and the small adjoining doors were only for the use of serving staff. A back area serves as the dining room but on sunny days and evenings people prefer to eat alfresco in the quaint walled garden beyond. This has its own access to the street and an outside bar housed in a stable-like building dispenses drinks to diners sat under heated parasols and an ivy covered gazebo.

A spring 2013 refit by owners Mitchells & Butlers sympathetically restored the interior to its former glory and upgraded the previous gourmet sausages food offering to a full gastro pub menu which is well executed. The superb beer offering includes a large selection of bottled beers as well as draught ales.
