Grande Année 2002 is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 16 villages, 75% of which are grand cru and 25% premier cru. The first fermentation is in oak and the wine is aged on its lees for at least 5 years. After riddling and disgorging, the wine rests 3 months prior to shipment.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 14/08/2012
Appearance:
Clear, pale golden with small persistent bubbles.
Aroma:
Well done toast and toasted almonds with green apple, nougat and developed yeasty notes which unusually, present as faint notes of rare bloody steak and mushrooms.
Taste:
Quite bright with zingy citrus – not the rounded champagne the nose might suggest but intensely classy and refreshing.
Aftertaste:
Unripe fruit, tart lemony citrus zesty, lemon curd finish. Fades with the tang lemon sherbet.
