Described by the marketing folk as a “super deluxe blend” and priced appropriately, this Johnnie Walker incarnation was launched in July 2005 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Walker, the man who created this famous whisky brand.

The 1805 blend consists of whiskies that are all at least 45 years old, most of them made by distilleries that no longer exist. Only 150 litres were produced – enough to fill 200 bottles. Each bottle is numbered, dated and presented in a Victorian style wooden writing case, along with a replica of the original handwritten recipe book belonging to Alexander Walker, John Walker’s grandson.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 03/01/2011

Appearance:

.

Aroma:

Waxy nose is surprisingly fruity considering the age of the base whiskies.

Taste:

Surprisingly fruity, with raisins, prune notes and hints of honey, vanilla and eucalyptus completed by a balanced garnish of peat smoke.

Aftertaste:

The only disappointment is the short finish.
