Also known as Santa Claus Beer, Samichlaus boppelbock is brewed once a year on 6th December and then aged for 10 months before bottling. This is one of the world’s strongest lagers so it may be cellared and aged for many years with aficionados claiming it becomes more complex with age.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 07/01/2013

Appearance:

Clear, deep cherry amber red with no head whatsoever.

Aroma:

Vinous spirity alcohol with dried fruit, plums and blackened fruit cake.

Taste:

Full-on, serious and incredibly complex with warming vinous spirit. A multitude of flavours include: burnt currants, red berry fruit, ripe cherries and bitter chocolate with Demerara sugar and caramel.

Aftertaste:

Long lasting fruity spirit. Like diving into freezing water, you quickly become accustom to the strong spirit notes then this becomes dangerously quaffable – albeit a sip at a time.
