Launched in the U.S. in October 2010, the first bottling consisted of only 2,000 cases, Courvoisier 21-Year-Old is made exclusively from grapes harvested in Grande Champagne.
I am told it contains eight grams per litre of sugar (up to 15 grams per litre may be added to cognac) but does not contain boisse which Courvoisier's master blender, Patrice Pinet says is "Not our style". "We prefer floral notes, not the tannins that boisse would bring," he says.
Sampled on 01/05/2011
Clear, Mahogany/amber.
Chocolate and espresso coffee nose. Orange, Brazil nut and dried fruit aromas, vanilla.
Slightly sweet candied palate with flamed orange zest, crème brûlée, cinnamon spice, ripe figs, ginger bread, hazelnut and cigar notes.
Rich spicy, nutty finish.
