Released in January 2011, this 2002 vintage was made from a blend of 50% Chardonnay and Pinot Noir 50%. The Pinot came from the Montagne de Reims: Verzy, Mailly, Ambonnay, Verzenay, Ay and Bouzy. The Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Cramant, Oger, Mesnil sur Oger and Chouilly.
During 2002 the weather was moderate with little rain and a mild winter with Spring frost effecting 38 villages. The flowering started June 14th-17th. Fortunately, sunny spells at the beginning of the harvest reduced the effect of heavy August rain resulting in a high quality harvest.
The Laurent-Perrier 2002 Vintage was bottle-aged in the cellars for almost eight years and disgorged prior to release.
Sampled on 28/01/2011
Clear, light golden yellow with green highlights and a steady stream of fine, persistent bubbles.
Peach, green melon fruit and buttered biscuit with floral honeysuckle, apple blossom and acacia honey.
Ripe green melon notes continue into the complex palate which also has buttery flavours.
The fruit notes turn more plumy in the long finish.
