Alpeggio is a mountain pasture or hay meadow, so it's an appropriate name for this liqueur, which captures the aromas of high alpine meadows.

Wild mountain grasses and flowers are cut and left to sun dry, then infused in neural spirit to flavour this aromatic liqueur. Such liqueurs are traditional in Italy's Dolomites, through the Austrian Alps, and into Bavaria.

Haus Alpenz recommend enjoying "neat, with soda or tonic, or mix with gin, white rum, or young Scotch."

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 28/07/2025

Appearance:

Clear, deep amber with burnished copper glints.

Aroma:

Grassy green tea with faint caramel and cinnamon.

Taste:

Starts sweet and grassy with green tea-like flavours and tannins quickly balancing. Subtle chocolate, honey and cinnamon.

Aftertaste:

Grassy green tea and caramel with mild cinnamon spice.

Overall:

I'm not quite sure what we expected a "hay liqueur" to taste like, but along with the expected grassiness, it's surprising how pronounced green tea notes are in Alpeggio.
