Brooklyn gin (not to be confused with Breuckelen gin – but that’s another legal battle) is made by Joe Santos, an ex-Bacardi marketer who grew up in New Jersey. He makes his gin with 11 botanicals, 5 of them fresh citrus peels, at Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery in Warwick, New York State.

The 11 botanicals: Juniper, lavender, cocoa nibs, coriander, orris root, angelica root, Eureka lemon, Persian lime, Key lime, Navel orange and kumquat.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 22/02/2016

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Pungent zesty citrus – particularly lime, with Indian curry spice notes and faint lavender. Juniper is fairly subdued. Water amplifies citrus zestiness.

Taste:

Orange zest leads with black pepper spice, fresh celery, mild piney juniper and cereal-like, faintly nutty notes.

Aftertaste:

Piney juniper, black pepper spiced finish.

Overall:

A very clean citrus zesty and spicy American gin with moderate juniper influence.
