The Clynelish Distillery sits on the Highland’s stormy north east coast at Brora and although on the light side, Clynelish malts tend to have a hints of salty island character, they also tend to be slightly waxy. This 14 year old conforms perfectly to these Clynelish stereotypes.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 20/06/2015

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Fudge, candle wax, brown sugar and cigar box with strong floral notes and faint clove. Water amplifies and releases strong zesty orange, biscuity malt and clove.

Taste:

Zesty orange, light honey sweetness and texture with apple, blackened fruitcake, saltiness and clove spice. A splash of water makes this whisky - bring sweet apple juice to the fore.

Aftertaste:

Malty, light salt and zesty orange with clove and cinnamon spiced oak.

Overall:

Waxy on the nose and fabulously fruity on the palate with elegant salty clove spice. Well-balanced with something of an island style, Clynelish 14 takes a splash of water well and is great value for money.
