In 1981 Laurent-Perrier was the first House to reintroduce the concept of brut nature champagne with its Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut. It is made from 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir, using over a dozen crus.

Known in the last century as ‘Grand Vin Sans Sucre’, this champagne style which is unique to Laurent-Perrier is today known as ‘Ultra-Brut’. This distinctive bone-dry champagne has no dosage sugar added to it. The blend combines a small majority of chardonnay with pinot noir and is made only from wines from the best vintage years as the quality of the grapes in this champagne is vital to achieve the desired balance of sugar and acidity without the addition of dosage.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 11/03/2014

Appearance:

Clear, pale straw yellow with persistent small bubbles.

Aroma:

Honeysuckle and buttery crumpet with faint vanilla and sweet plump raison.

Taste:

Dry, sharp, clean and citrus-led with white grapefruit and light floral notes.

Aftertaste:

Long, bitter grapefruit cleansing finish. A champagne for dieters - lacks sugar but consequently is mouth puckeringly tart.
