The square bottle's long rectangular label declares ‘Aromatic Schiedam Schnapps’ but the tiny print at the bottom indicates that this is, indeed, a style of jenever. Henkes has been made for over 200 years and is highly regarded in Nigeria where it is used at births, marriages and deaths ceremonies.

To quote the wordy front label, “The extraordinary quality and delicious taste of this pure beverage have led to its extensive consumption throughout the civilized world.
“The famous signature at foot of this label is a positive safeguard to the consumer and a means of identification of the genuine Henkes Star Brand Schnapps, a guarantee of reputation and of reliability.
“Four Times Distilled from the Choicest Grains, a Product Appreciated by the Connoisseurs.
“Please note label and brand and beware of spurious imitations.”

Crystal clear.

Μύτη:

Fragrant oily hay and toasted nuts with faint freshly baked apple pie.

Στόμα:

Mellow with oily brazil nuttiness and rich notes of meat stock, baked apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. The juniper flavour is somewhat masked by the other strong botanicals.

Επίγευση:

Brasil nuts and lingering Christmas spice.
