A classic Italian red bitter aperitivo made by infusing fruits and herbs including sweet oranges, bitter oranges, rhubarb, mint, marjoram and thyme.

First launched in Italy in the 1990s, Luxardo Bitter Rosso was made available in the UK in 2024.

Water, sugar, alcohol, natural flavour, citric acid, colour: E122.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, bright scarlet red.

Aroma:

Blood-red orange and zesty ruby grapefruit with faint lemon thyme and bark-like black pepper.

Taste:

Syrup sweetness is offset by quinine bitterness with blood-red orange zest, cherry and mint.

Aftertaste:

Quinine and zesty orange with pithy bitterness.

Overall:

Bitter with pronounced zesty citrus. Quinine bitterness and sweetness are on par with Campari (the previous sample in 2016 appeared less bitter).
