Vilniaus Degtine was established in 1907, in the Rokiskis region at the Obeliu Spirit Distillery. At that time, the distillery was owned by the Counts and the drinks were prepared exclusively for aristocracy.
Today, Obeliu Spirit Distillery is still active in producing rectified grain spirit, the primary component of the strong drinks made by Vilniaus Degtine.
Vodka makes the major portion of the company's production sales with brands including Bajor, Sobieski and Karvedys. Besides vodka, the company also makes a brandy called Trauktines as well as liqueurs.
In 1995 Vilniaus Degtine was reorganized into a special purpose joint stock company. In November of 2003, more than 80% of the company�s stock was purchased by the French company Belvedere SA.
