Review

Opened in 2014 by school friends and now business partners, Brian Nasajon (executive chef) and Ben Potts (bar manager), from outside this large, upscale restaurant and bar is something of a hipster hangout with an open kitchen to the right and the bar with its impressive five tears of spirits lining the back bar to the left. Up-lit and so shadowed brickwork adds character to what over wise is a fairly bland room. Beyond the bar lies a small lounge area spoilt by floor to ceiling showroom-like windows. Warm lighting adds to a buzzy atmosphere.

As befits a good menu in what is chiefly a restaurant, the bar list here kicks off with a selection of Aperitivos such the "Other Barry" (oloroso sherry, ramazotti, cassis and raspberry shrub) then divides the rest of the cocktails under headings such as "Shaken", "Stirred", "Strange" (we like the Inside Outside in with Santa Teresa Gran Reserva, Luxardo Maraschino and madeira), Digestivos and Mocktails (including the Green Gremlin with cucumber, rosemary and tonic). You'll find the beer selection equally well curated and a good choice of wines.

But don't just come here to drink, Brian's tapas-led menu has a reputation that lives up to Ben's drinks. Most of all Beaker & Grey has the buzz and that special feel only achieved in owner operated venues.
