Eristoff is produced in France from neutral spirit (we presume wheat) and benefits from charcoal filtration. It enjoys volume sales in Mainland Europe where it is positioned as a ‘standard’ vodka.

The Eristoff logo of a wolf howling at a crescent moon is a reference to the Persian name for Georgia, Virshan, meaning “land of the wolf”. Eristoff’s bell-shaped bottle is embossed with the imperial crown and around the base of the bottle the words “Original Recipe of Prince Eristoff of 1806” are written in Russian Cyrillic text.

Allegedly created for Nikolai Alexandrovich Eristoff, a Georgian prince in 1806. Legend has it that the recipe was handed down through generations of the Eristoff family who fled to Europe to escape the Russian revolution. Production later resumed in Milan. In 1960, the brand was taken over by Martini & Rossi. Sadly the last members of the Eristoff family were Prince Nicolai Alexandrovich Eristoff, died in Milan in 1970, and his sister Olga, who died in 1991. Neither had children. Prince Nicolai’s name appears across the top of the vodka’s label.

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

There is a faint whiff of vanilla bubblegum, toast and black pepper on the otherwise neutral nose.

Taste:

Slightly sweet toasty bread and aniseed but with little real character, although, equally, there is nothing actually unpleasant on what is a very clean, highly rectified spirit.

Aftertaste:

The minimum alcohol strength and the gimmicky marketing often associated with Eristoff is a measure of the market Eristoff is aimed at.
