Brooklyn Monster Ale is a barley wine brewed from three mashes of Scottish floor-malted Maris Otter malt, British pale ale and Crystal malts from East Anglia, and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops. Monster Ale is aged for four months.

With strength of 10.3% this is a brew you may want to lay down to age for a few years.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Clear, dark chestnut amber with full retentive head, but light lacing.

Aroma:

Boozy Christmas cake with loads of plump raisins and sultanas, burnt sugar and faint cinnamon and hop spice.

Taste:

Monster palate, but remarkably approachable of such an alcoholic beast. Alcohol bite, fruit, honey/brown sugar/toffee sweetness and bitterness all in perfect balance.

Aftertaste:

Burnt sugar and baked/burnt sultana finish with charcoal toast crust bitterness.
