Koko Kanu is made from Jamaican white rum with natural coconut flavours and boasts a far higher alcohol strength than many other coconut liqueurs.

Koko Kanu's back label confirms it to be a "liqueur" rather than a rum, meaning it contains more than 100 grams of sugar per litre (although the exact sugar content is not disclosed). That said, this 'coconut rum liqueur' is drier and more rum-like than many other brands.

Koko Kanu's original label featured two of Jamaica's national symbols, the 'Doctor' hummingbird and the Lignum Vitae flower.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 27/02/2013

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Spirit-led, rum-like nose with confectioner's coconut.

Taste:

Rum-led with macaroon, confectioner's coconut and cocoa powder with faint hints of Madeira cake and children's white chocolate.

Aftertaste:

Palate fades with added spirity spice - surprisingly little coconut lingers against the strong white rum.

Overall:

Enjoyable served neat over ice and as a cocktail ingredient.
