Red Stag is based on 4 year-old Jim Beam bourbon which has been infused with black cherry flavours and, we suspect, quite a lot of sugar (should perhaps be categorised as a liqueur).

Red Stage was launched in the USA in 2009, selling in excess of 200,000 cases in its first year. It was the first flavoured bourbon to hit the UK market, launching in April 2011.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 25/04/2011

Appearance:

Clear, Bright golden yellow.

Aroma:

Buttery popcorn, new leather, polished shoes nose with cinnamon and bubble-gum aromas. Distinct lack of cherry aromas - more sweet bran.

Taste:

Sweet and yet fiery palate with prickly cinnamon and popcorn. The flavour hangs around for time, somewhat reminiscent of having sucked on a stick of British rock (that's a type of candy for non-British readers).

Aftertaste:

Has great commercial appeal.
