Popular throughout the Caribbean, Ting is a carbonated soft drink flavoured with Jamaican grapefruit juice (from concentrate). It was first produced in 1976 by Desnoes & Geddes Limited (D&G), a Jamaican brewer and beverage producer also famous for its Red Stripe beer.
D&G was formed in 1918 when two shop owners, Eugene Peter Desnoes and Thomas Hargreaves Geddes, merged their businesses. Guinness acquired the majority share of D&G in 1993 (now part of Diageo), and the company's focus shifted to beer with its soft drinks brands (including Ting) and production facility acquired by PepsiCo in 1999. In the UK, Ting is produced under license by Cott Beverages.
In Jamaica, Ting is often mixed with overproof rum to make a Ting Wray or a Ting 'n' Sting. It is also mixed with citrus-flavoured vodka to create a Ving.
