One of two porters inspired by historical recipes released in August 2014 as part of Guinness’ Brewers Project. Hopped with English Goldings, this Dublin Porter is dark ale based on 1796 recipe which is a 3.8% alc./vol., apparently typical of a working men's Porter at the time.

Review and Tasting

Appearance

(sample best before 28/Jun/15) Clear but virtually opaque, deep brown almost black with retentive beige head and very light lacing.

Aroma

Earthy coffee and chocolate, charcoal and liquorice.

Taste

Slightly sweet caramel with charcoal toasty malt and caramel.

Aftertaste

Charcoal, dark chocolate and liquorice. Overall: Well-balanced and sessionable.
