Since 1889, the makers of Suze have blended gentian roots and plants to create bitters. In 2015 they applied this knowledge to develop a range of aromatic bitters. Flavoured with gentian, nutmeg and anise, Suze red Aromatic Bitters were developed with the help of French bartender, Julien Escot.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 01/07/2015
Appearance:
Clear, scarlet red.
Aroma:
Pungent gentian with well-judged nutmeg and anise. Faint lily blossom.
Taste:
There’s something of a floral character with intense gentian bitterness and well rounded spice.
Aftertaste:
Anise emerges strongly.
Overall:
The colour and style of these red aromatic bitters cries out for use in a Sazerac. Indeed they work well, leaving a distinct long lingering bitter gentian finish so you may want to use more sparingly than say Peychard’s.
