One of the very few single estate gins made in the UK, Ramsbury is a classic London Dry gin based on neutral spirit made from Horatio wheat grown onsite, then redistilled with nine botanicals.
The nine botanicals include juniper picked locally on Salisbury Plain and quince grown in the grounds of the distillery, as well as angelica, cinnamon, liquorice, orris root, coriander, dried lemon peel and dried orange peel. However, the exact formula remains a close-guarded secret.
The new Ramsbury bottle designs were launched in January 2021, featuring an illustration of the Ramsbury farm on the inside of the back label and field coordinates feature on the front of the bottle, marking the exact location where the wheat is sown and harvested.
The Ramsbury Single Estate Gin is best served over ice, or as a base in Ramsbury's favourite cocktails.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 08/01/2019
Appearance:
(simple bottle batch 01-17, base spirit distilled Autumn 2015, gin distillation Winter 2016) Crystal clear.
Aroma:
Pine (and faint ripe banana) juniper, clean hamster cage, clove, cinnamon and black pepper spice with faint raspberry bubble-gum.
Taste:
Cleansing cracked black pepper spice, sweet pine and ripe banana juniper, with grainy notes, nutty angelica and faint quince jam.
Aftertaste:
Superbly clean, black pepper spice, piney juniper and creamy nutty angelica.
Overall:
Simple, clean and superb. Juniper presents with pine and overripe banana with creamy nutty angelica and enlivening black pepper spice, all in kilter and presented in a rounded and statuesque bottle.
