Giulio Cocchi created this aromatised wine in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Barolo Chinato is based on Barolo DOCG wine infused with cinchona calisaya, rhubarb and gentian root, and cardamom seeds.
Traditionally consumed as tonic wine and remedy in Piedmont, both cold and "vin brulé", hot and invigorating. Also appreciated as a digestive, Barolo Chinato was served to guests and was a symbol of farmers' hospitality.
