Macchu Pisco

Discerning Drinkers (1 rating)

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: 4 months

Peruvian Melanie de Trindade-Asher was studying at Harvard Business School when she decided to apply her education toward establishing her own brand of premium Pisco - the result being Macchu Pisco. Her first bottling of just 500 bottles, 'Poción 9'. was a blend of carefully selected Peruvian Pisco.

Distillation to Melanie's own specification did not commence until 2004 when 6,000 bottles where produced. The distillate of three different varieties of Muscat grapes is used in the blend - Italia, Moscatel and Quebranta. Each is single pot distilled from the first pressing with the run from each batch distillation averaging 42%abv. The resulting spirits are rested in oak casks for four months before blending and bottling. During this aging process, the spirit loses 2%abv so no dilution is necessary, or allowed according to Peruvian law, to reach bottling strength. It should be noted that no sugar is added either.
