This coming May is the first ever Australian Cocktail Month, giving us an entire 31 days of bar visits and imaginative new drinks to try from the country's best bartenders. Here's everything you need to know.

New cocktails to try, all at a discounted price, in pretty much all of Australia's best bars - sounds great, right? You had us at cocktails... so how do you get involved?

Australian Cocktail Month, founded by Penny Sippe, is running in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide for its first year. Gold star to anyone who manages to visit all four cities during the month and tick off all the bars. Tickets for the festival cost $20 and they're valid for all May, in all 72 bars taking part. You can buy

participating venue: The Lobo, Sydney

On offer are drinks based on some beautiful local Australian spirits, vermouth and liqueurs as well as exciting international brands. Each bar has had their pick of the ingredients they want to work with so expect to taste some amazing flavours in your glass and discover a whole host of new brands to seek out. We're talking homegrown booze from the Adelaide Hills Distillery, Needle & Pin, Regal Rogue Vermouths, Starward Two Fold Whisky and The Melbourne Gin Company to name a smattering. Imports include Muyu liqueurs by bartenders Alex Kratena, Monica Berg and Simone Caporale, British Chase vodka and Don Papa rum from the Philippines.

Included in the 18 venues taking part in Melbourne are Black Pearl, Lover, Nick & Nora’s and The Everleigh, while Brisbane bars offering the Australian Cocktail Month menu will include The Gresham, Savile Row, Death and Taxes and Blackbird.

Tickets go on sale this month so keep your eyes peeled for this chance to experience the best in Aussie bar culture and support the cocktail industry in its recovery.
