Review

This is the third Galander bar in Berlin, with another of the same name in foodie haven Kreuzberg and Bruegge bar on Kottbusser Strasse. The Charlottenburg venue is a small bar located in what was, we were told, formerly a 'red-light establishment' - but there isn't much evidence of this now. Instead the owners have painstakingly restored it to its former art nouveau style.

There are stunning examples of wall art here, a fresco of a woman offering out a cocktail with the words 'Mon Cheri' features on one wall whilst the ceiling and walls show stunning plastered carvings. The bar itself, which dominates the room entirely, is piled high with spirits and a few unusual German brandies stick out from the usual line up of whiskeys, gins, vodkas and rums.

Drinks are a mix of classics and twists and it seems every style has been remembered as flips, fizzes, punches and sours all feature with a few tiki cocktails thrown in. The drinks are well made and inventive plus they have a good selection of wine and champagne too. Thanks to its small size the atmosphere is generally upbeat and crowded.
