That's as difficult to quantify as a dash. However, a knob is generally accepted as being 2 to 3 teaspoons.

Agree. It is a British measurement also used in many recipes. I would say about a walnut sized piece of butter. Since it is butter, a little additional will not hurt the quality of the cocktail.
