you can fat wash the rum with regular or browned butter, it's really easy and quick and the flavourful rum has an amazing mouthfeel plus the cocktail then has almost zero grease

Had forgotten about this cocktail. As it is a cold (for San Diego, CA USA) standards and rainy this was a perfect evening cocktail. Used a Hamilton pot stilled Black Rum. A hefty knob of butter and it was delightful. Perfect to warm you up.

How much is a “knob?”

That's as difficult to quantify as a dash. However, a knob is generally accepted as being 2 to 3 teaspoons.

Replacing the water with good dry hard cider makes all the difference. Wonderfully warming winter beverage.
