Thank you. I thought that might be the case.
That brings up the question of how many different amaros one needs in order to cover all the amaro styles? I suspect the answer is too many for my storage space and budget!

My suggestion would be to follow your nose. If you’re interested in particular cocktails or flavours, buy a bottle and explore what you can do with it. Some amari such as Averna are in lots of cocktails. Nonino is in relatively fewer, but is in paper plane - if you already like Last Word then it’s prob worth trying. There are also some online tables of suggested substitutions to help streamline your cabinet and budget. But ideally it’s a question of what you feel drawn to. It’s easy to feel excited by a multitude of offerings, but which ones most resonate.

Yes, it's worth having cocktails in mind before purchasing. Many are also great over a cube of ice as a late-night digestivo.
