I love your reviews normally, but I disagree here. I believe that it does have nuance. The chili is actually the opening note in my opinion with its heat and spiciness (I used Ancho Reyes), then the Mezcal, Tequila and the vermouth deliver a wonderful, nuanced suckerpunch where the agave comes through rich and smokey with dried fruit, spiced sweet vermouth and it's finished with the chili again. Delightful and complex Manhattan variation which can surprise and delight.
My first mezcal cocktail, no chile liqueur but I put some drops of Tabasco, maybe a drop too much. I like the mezcal (a smoky San Cosme).
This cocktail is a nice mix of flavours by the mezcal and tequila with a sweet note of the vermouth and a fresh orange zest.
Will made it again (one drop of Tabasco will be fine).
