I agree, this didn't have much of a taste. A 4:1 or 5:1 ratio also makes a very clean and enjoyable vodka martini.

Agreed! The 10:1 ratio only works when this cocktail is shaken. I've amended above accordingly and also taken the opportunity to add some of the recently available Ginseng Bitters. They are brilliant in Martinis.
