The Buck can be improved by adding a dash of liqueur appropriate to the spirit base. E.g. add a dash of Grand Marnier to a Brandy Buck

What you suggest as an appropriate liqueur to match with gin? A sweet vermouth?

Any of the many orange liqueurs work well but I particularly like orange curacao. Elderflower is another safe bet.
