I had to use Cherry Heering, and I adjusted by adding slightly less (a scant ounce) than the recipe called for, as I read it was a bit sweeter. It still came through bit too heavy, but I think maybe going to 3/4 might be better. I was also thinking of maybe cutting in just a little Luxardo, but that is starting to get closer to a different cocktail.
